Massachusetts Targeted in Phone Scams

By: bankofeaston

Last week Massachusetts Bankers Association alerted banks that of a phone scam targeting customers of banks across Massachusetts. We recently became aware of a Bank of Easton customer who received such a spoofed phone call.

Here is how the fraud works:

Bad actors posing as bank employees use spoofed phone numbers that appear to be a legitimate bank numbers to trick customers into disclosing sensitive information or initiating fraudulent transactions. Often the caller impersonating a bank employee will claim your identity has been stolen or that there has been suspicious activity in your account.

  • Important reminders:
  • Caller ID can be faked. Do not rely on it alone.
  • We will NEVER call you unexpectedly and ask for your password, full account number, PIN, social security number, or online banking password.
  • We will never ask you to text or email sensitive banking information.

If you receive a suspicious call regarding your account with Bank of Easton:
1. Hang up immediately.
2. Report the call to us by contacting us directly at either 508-238-1000 or 508-238-2092.

These scams are real, active, and designed to create urgency and fear. A few minutes of caution can prevent significant financial loss.
